sources close to me told me that EMI has finally pulled out from the asian market.

this is indeed sad news for one of the major labels. EMI's efforts to cut 2,000 jobs worldwide early in the year didn't seem to rescue them from dire straits.

who's next in the line?

If i'm not mistaken they have lot of Divas on their hand right like Yan zhi, Ah Mei...etc. But sadly most of them went downhill. At least none of my frens around interested with their music. In pop music arena, you need to have enough charisma and tons of creativity. Those glory days of EMI doing heavenly super star like Faye Wong have passed.

hi anonymous,
i used to love yanzi but yes, she is going downhill.

if you want creativity and individualism, look towards taiwan's indie scene - names like cheer chen and zhang xuan will surely satisfy you.

and yes, i do miss faye wong.

I guess this explains why a lot of CDs that happened to be imported by EMI with price tags around RM30 now come back with price nearing RM50.

EMI. The label that brought us Duran Duran, Culture Club and many other 80s big names.

in the next five years, there won't be major labels. instead, artists become their own managers starting many indie labels.
