we are talking to mogwai!

if all goes well, mogwai will be performing in KL for the first time in january 2009!

keep your fingers crossed, guys!

i know, i know, most of you here don't like the music that i like but anyway....

muisctoxin (our music label that houses 2v1g) in collaboration with dongtaidu (a chinese indie concert organizer) is bringing in the fabulous indie act from hong kong, my little airport!

as stated last year, i have strong ambitions to become an indie concert organizer and this is my first project.

the date is 30th august 2008 (eve of merdeka), the ticket price is a very affordable Rm55 and the venue is a classy auditorium in PJ. it is a good venue cos you can avoid the jam in kl! this is gonna be the first time that my little airport perform in malaysia.

my little airport's music is called cutie-pop in hong kong; it is basically a refreshing blend of indie pop with cantopop, with thought-provoking lyrics and sweet melodies.

you can find out all about my little airport by just googling - they are all over the place.

it is gonna be one cool concert, i promise. we accept booking of tickets here.

check out this cute video - it is about a "naughty" date in a love hotel in hong kong ;-)

say no to politics in hifi

i know it will come. the day has come. the demands from the dealers on the (relative) positioning of their ads; the (unreasonable) expectations from their ads etc. etc.

and i hate all these. i really do. i am not a politician and i am not good in licking the balls/asses of these dealers.

chinese has a proverb - those who eat salted fish must be able to withstand the thirst. in this case, the salted fish i ate is bloody salty! i feel like throwing up all this salted fish i ate.

many dealers still don't know that i do av xpress not for the money, but for the passion and satisfaction of having a voice in this industry. some compare me with my sole competitor - the local chinese mag with a 14-year history behind it and practically monopolizes the market - saying that i am not politically sensitive and tactful. hey, that guy depends on the mag for his livelihood yeah and i don't!

i am thinking of making av xpress totally independent. as long as someone is willing to sponsor the printing cost and contribution fee (for my writers), then i am willing to do it as a non-profit project. you know of any organization who is willing to sponsor RM5K per issue? or you readers can form a common fund (tabung av xpress) for av xpress? only then i can be free of all this crap and politicking. only then i can be a really strong voice in the industry.

on the brighter note, i am venturing into event organization. somebody with good track record is inviting me to invest in his event company. and he has already a mega act lined up in october. i am game cos music and entertainment line is my calling. with music/cd business being a sunset biz, live concert is the way to go. at least, you can't duplicate/pirate a live concert. music lovers are willing to pay for live concerts.

i shall be announcing the act and sell tickets in this blog soon, once we have confirmation from the agent.

it is kinda funny. when you are a music and hi-fi die-hard, all your investment ideas would invariably center around this hobby. let's be clear, music and hifi business won't make your rich, that we know that from day one. neither do we want to be poor and struggling artistes that are fed on thin air - we want to develop this music and hifi business into a reasonably successful one; enough to pay our bills, fund our lifestyles and have helluva fun while doing it. that's why we started av xpress, the music label and now another new exciting project.

tonight, i met mark, an indie producer for the past 15 years. sparks flew, chemistry glued and immediately we strike on a partnership deal. we want to bring well-known chinese indie artistes from taiwan and china to perform live in malaysia. again, no one has dabbled in this biz before because it is so niche. mark himself is a seasoned concert organizer; with our combined expertise and experience, we are confident that we can make money and have a good time. that's all i can reveal at the moment.

sorry that av xpress issue #2 has been delayed till next tuesday due to printing problems. i have been extremely tough on my printer in that i want nothing less than 100% in printing quality for av xpress. i have to answer to myself and my dealers who support me. so you can expect a aesthetically pleasing and content-rich publication soon.
