plenty of expensive bottles

for the past 3 months, i couldn't feel the presence of my stage III gryphon in my system, all because of the weakening of tubes.

tonight i got the help of a friend to switch to the new svetlana winged-c 6550 tubes and do the necessary biasing, which is really a two-person's job.

i got back the glorious sound, the sound that drove me gaga when i inserted the stage III gryphon into my system for the first time last year. the bass was easily 20% more (volume, tactility, tunefulness, bounciness) compared to the one given by the weakened tubes. this is how maggie should do bass!

actually my old tubes can still be played for another 500-1,000 hours or so but the perfectionist in me couldn't accept the compromise.

lost and found, but at a price.

another blissful 1,000 hours ahead of me, yay!

ML, congrats! We'll be making a beeline to your place to listen to your rejuvenated system. :-)

ML,

Told you that one of the problems was your tubes.

I think because of the poor quality of electricity in your area also contributed to your tube's early demise.

ML,
Look at it this way, in the long run you will save money and enjoy longers hours of musical bliss if you get the Torus.

Many congratulations goes to ML for discovering the problems and have it solved.

Fundamentally, its not the money on tubes but the Sound; not accepting any compromise is a good virtue.

M,

Now that you tubes have wings and your system can fly, I can imagine you cooing softly to the tubes to Frank Sinatra's "Fly Me To The Moon."

"Fly me to the moom
Let me sing among the stars...

Fill my heart with song
Let me sing for ever more
You are all I long for
All I worship and adore..."

Looking teary eyed at each tube, caressing them and blowing kisses too. :)

ken,
while trouble-shooting, i was juggling with many variables, i thought tubes was the least suspected.

km,
i was playing marvin gaye "sexual healing" and george micheal "i want your sex"!

M,

Hehe...

I thought you were playing Right Said Fred's "I'm Too Sexy"...

...for my tubes!

ML,

Variables or not, I did tell you to check your tubes. Eventually you did.

ML,
Getting the Torus might not solve high voltage supply issues that can lead to premature valve lifespan. You need to be regulating your voltage to 240V and only then your valve amp will run at its most optimum condition.
Cheers.

I had the good fortune to hear ML's system is action yesterday! I am happy for him as his system not only returned to it's peak performance when I heard it sometime in October 2008, but also made a few notable improvements.

The system's bass is now more solid, has better drive and definition. The perceptopn of stage depth is greater than before.

The overall musicality is hard to fault. congrats! ML, at least for another 900+ hours and counting! Ha!Ha!
