Fake oyaide has been around very long ago, it just become big story in US because one of the biggest DIY companies there Part Connexion decided to sell them too (now reversed of course after all the unflattering hoohah...)

Oyaide connectors comes in a tin canister not in paper box form. Octave does sell in paper box according to my friend who has bought it.
